There are three main features that a pillow should have:

    •        It should provide proper support for both when lying on your side and on your
    back.
    •        The correct climate control is very important, as many people perspire on their
    ordinary pillow.
    •        A good pillow needs to adapt itself to individual sleeping needs.

    The PRO-PIL-O

The American sleep researcher Dr. L. H. Dixon developed the neck support of the Pro
Pil O, so you can enjoy the perfect sleep. Thanks to its precise orthopedic shape, you
always lie correctly. The cervical spine is relieved of stress, and the neck and shoulder
muscles can relax. In doing so, the soft neck support plays an important role.

Climate control is also perfectly resolved

The fine cotton pillow cover, combined with the generous ventilation channels, ensures
that dampness is efficiently conveyed away. One side of the pillow cover contains
original Comfortemp®. This unique material can both cool and warm, and can thus
    even out temperature fluctuations.

    Its individual adaptability is unique

You can alter the height of the pillow, and also choose between two slightly different
neck supports. By turning the pillow cover (Comfortemp® above or below), you even
have two climate sides available. Please note that you should allow yourself a few
weeks to become accustomed to the pillow, since your muscles are adapted to your
“old” pillow. Allow your body and yourself the necessary time to adjust.

Pro Pil O Viscomed is a high-tech product derived from space travel technology and
made in Germany. The thermo-elastic properties of the material perfectly support the
orthopedic characteristics of the pillow. It adjusts to body temperature and so to the
shape of your body and not vice versa. So the pressure is evenly dispersed while
    optimal ventilation is granted.

History of the Pro Pil O

The need for a neck support pillow

The human cervical spine has a heavy-duty job: the seven cervical vertebras carry the
head, which weighs about 9 to 13 pounds. The cervical easily come under distress during
the course of the day, especially cramping up at work at a computer, i.e. Only during sleep
regeneration and relaxation are possible for the cervical and ligaments. Unfortunately, the
majority of the pillows reinforces and hardens wrong positioning. They don’t offer the right
anatomic support to relax the cervical and the ligaments. Only well constructed neck
    support pillow can achieve this.

The development of the Pro Pil O

Dr. Dixon (MD) working in a hospital in San Francisco observed that after surgery patients
had extreme difficulties with the positioning of the head. The existing pillows could not
support the head and neck in a relaxing way. The patients had to deal with an additional
    burden.

Dr. Dixon searched in many store to find better pillows than the ones used in the hospital.
She didn’t find any. So, in 1980, she started to develop a pillow together with the
orthopedic workshop of the hospital. First the only anatomically right shape was formed: the
softly slopping trough for the neck that flows into the trough for the head to support head
and neck in the right position. The next step was to define the necessary elasticity and to
find a way so patients would not perspire on the pillow. At this point Dr. Dixon still assumed
that people of different size and height would need different sizes of pillows.

Pro Pil O in one size only

During the development phase it became obvious that patients of all shapes and sizes were
comfortable with one and the same size. When sleeping on the back the shape of the spine
is independent of the size. This was clear from the beginning. But lying on the side was the
issue. The test results were that first of all when resting on the side the shoulder is bent
forward. Nobody rests on the shoulder in an upright position. This already reduces the
difference between small and big people a lot. Also, heavier people sink deeper into the
mattress. The result is that one size fits all. Nevertheless the Pro Pil O can be adjusted in
height for the matter of getting used to it or for very hard mattresses.

The Pro Pil O is comfortable

Comfortable is a matter of definition is this case, because soft doesn’t equal comfortable.
The comfort of a pillow can be defined as follows:

    •        Head and neck have to be supported anatomically correct in both positions: on the
    side and on the back
    •        The elasticity has to be right. The pillow has to carry right. The pressure should not
    build up to quickly.
    •        The ventilation channels should not close through the pressure of head and neck. Air
has to circulate under head and neck always.
    •        The cover has to be permeable, washable and suited for allergic people.

Pro Pil O is made in Germany and sold successfully in Europe for years. It is now available
    in the US.
